Andrés Roca Selected as a 2026 Científico Latino GSMI Mentor

Congratulations to Andrés Roca, Ph.D. student in our lab, on being selected as a 2026 Científico Latino Graduate School Mentorship Initiative (GSMI) Mentor!

Over the next nine months, Andrés will mentor college students and recent graduates from low-income, first-generation, and underserved backgrounds as they prepare for graduate school in STEM. Through GSMI, mentees receive guidance on graduate school applications, mock interviews, financial assistance opportunities, and access to a broader community of scientists.

We are excited to see Andrés contribute his experience and mentorship to help support and empower the next generation of STEM leaders!

Lab Publication Recognized as a Highly Cited Paper

We are proud to share that our publication, "Hydrogel Network Architecture Design Space: Impact on Mechanical and Viscoelastic Properties," has been recognized as a Highly Cited Paper by Gels.

The study, authored by Andres F. Roca-Arroyo, Jhonatan A. Gutierrez-Rivera, Logan D. Morton, and David A. Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students

A representative from the Micro/Nano Biomaterials and Stem Cell Engineering Lab participated in the 2025 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) held in San Antonio, Texas. During the conference, she represented the University of Miami College of Engineering by engaging with prospective students, answering questions about graduate education, and sharing her experiences as a Ph.D. student and researcher.
